Ken Rosenthal Predicts Tigers to Win it All

by @ Wednesday, March 28th, 2007. Filed under 2007 Tigers

I just picked this up on the Tigers’ FSN telecast and Rod and Mario talked with Ken Rosenthal, who apparantly plans on picking the Tigers to win it all.  When this makes print, I’ll be sure to link to it.
And since I’m here, Tigers are up 3-0.  Gary Sheffield hit a no doubt about it […]

MiLB.com previewed the Phillies minor league system today.  There’s profiles of players at each level of the system as well as a 2006 draft recap.  They then close with the players they think will be the best in the organization (Mike Costanzo and Carlos Carrasco).  There’s a ton of stuff in here and it’s a […]

Royals Hope and Faith

by @ Wednesday, March 28th, 2007. Filed under 2007 Royals

For Royals fans, there hasn’t been a lot of faith and there’s been even less hope for the team.  Now Rany Jazayerli tries to paint as rosy of a picture as he can about the Royals upcoming season.  At the very least, I think this will be one of the more fun seasons the Royals […]

At Baseball America’s prospect blog, they take a look at sort of a post spring training look at the Twins top prospects.  They talk about Matt Garza’s great spring and subsequent likely trip to Triple A as well as Alexi Casilla, who also looks slated to start the season at Rochester.  And he closes with […]

Bullpen Struggles in Reds Loss to Phillies

by @ Wednesday, March 28th, 2007. Filed under 2007 Season

Rheal Cormier and Dustin Hermanson were touched up for four late runs as the Reds lost to Phillies 6-2.  Cormier was particularly knocked around as he gave up three runs on three hits and a walk.  In the meantime, Kyle Lohse was decent in his start.  He gave up two runs on five hits and […]

Joel Zumaya Gives Up First Spring Runs in Tigers Win Over Braves

by @ Wednesday, March 28th, 2007. Filed under 2007 Tigers

Joel Zumaya is perfect no longer as he gave up back to back solo homeruns to Andruw Jones and Brian McCann.  To Zumaya’s credit, he wasn’t dialing it in there like he usually does and he got burned with two mid-90s fastballs.  After that, he started touching 99 and he didn’t get into anymore trouble.  […]

Reggie Jackson 1997 Retrospective

by @ Tuesday, March 27th, 2007. Filed under 1977 Yankees

Reggie Jackson is one of those Yankees I don’t think people appreciate anymore.  Yeah, the Yankees have the big names like Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig and Joe DiMaggio, but right up there with all of them is Mr. October, Reggie Jackson.  This is a guy who belted 563 homeruns when that was huge deal.  He’s currently tied […]

Padres Score 24 in Win Over Rangers

by @ Tuesday, March 27th, 2007. Filed under 2007 Padres

Talk about a beat down.  The Padres beat the Rangers 24-7 today and racked up 25 hits.  Russell Branyan had a game fit for a video game. He went four for six with two homeruns, five RBIs and four runs.  Adrian Gonzalez also homered as did Kazmar.  There was a lot of offense in this […]

Yankees 2007 Preview

by @ Tuesday, March 27th, 2007. Filed under 2007 Season

Alex Belth previewed the Yankees at Baseball Prospectus today.  Not too much to add, because the Yankees are the team to beat.  He does finish things up with the fact that health will be the primary issue this year for the Yankees.  Once again, Belth nails this dead on.

PECOTA Projects the Tigers Third in the AL Central

by @ Tuesday, March 27th, 2007. Filed under 2007 Tigers

Nate Silver used his projection system, PECOTA, to see how the AL Central (and NL Central) will turn out in the 2007.  Not good news for Tiger fans because they have the Tigers in third place with 85 wins.   It projects the Indians and Twins to come in with 90 wins with the White Sox […]

A Scouts View On Adam Miller

by @ Tuesday, March 27th, 2007. Filed under 2007 Indians

Baseball American recently posted some very interesting notes on Adam Miller from an American League scout.  He describes him to Kevin Brown and has some pretty good things to say about him.  There’s no doubt this guy is talented and he’ll be in the rotation at some point this year.

Orioles Spring Training Review

by @ Tuesday, March 27th, 2007. Filed under 2007 Orioles

MiLB.com continued their look at spring training camps with a look at the Orioles.  The burning question has to do with how well the Orioles have done the past two years in the draft and then there’s a Q&A with Jeff Fiorentino.  Good read with a ton of information.

Casey Fossum Throws Five Shutout Innings in Devil Rays Win

by @ Tuesday, March 27th, 2007. Filed under 2007 Devil Rays

The Devil Rays won another one, and this time in a 1-0 pitchers duel.  Casey Fossum threw five shutout innings in which he gave up five hits and a walk with three strikeouts while four relievers combined for four shutout innings.
The lone run of the game came in the seventh inning.  Delmon Young singled and […]

Pete Ward 1967 White Sox Retrospective

by @ Tuesday, March 27th, 2007. Filed under 1967 White Sox

In 1967, the White Sox offense was pretty bad.  I know this was a very pitcher friendly era, but the 1967 White Sox hearken back to the Hitless Wonders of 1906.  The finished eighth in batting average (.225) and ninth in both OBP (.288) and slugging (.320).  They also finished dead last in hits (1,209) […]

Dodgers Trade Elmer Dessens to Brewers for Brady Clark

by @ Tuesday, March 27th, 2007. Filed under 2007 Season

The Dodgers dealt for an outfielder yesterday.  They sent relief pitcher Elmer Dessens to the Brewers for Brady Clark, who had a solid season last year.  He doesn’t hit for a lot of power, but he has a good eye at the plate and he’ll take over as the team’s fourth outfielder now that Jason […]

Brewers Trade Brady Clark to Dodgers for Elmer Dessens

by @ Tuesday, March 27th, 2007. Filed under 2007 Brewers

The Brewers added another arm yesterday when they traded Brady Clark to the Dodgers for Elmer Dessens.  With a glut of outfielders, this move makes sense and the Brewers got a fair pitcher in return.  Dessens will start the season for the Brewers as a long reliever and Bob Melvin said that he’ll fill a […]

J.P. Howell, Edwin Jackson Fight for Last Spot on Rotation

by @ Tuesday, March 27th, 2007. Filed under 2007 Devil Rays

It looks like the fight for the fifth spot in the Devil Rays rotation has come down to a two man race.  It looks like it’s now between J.P. Howell and Edwin Jackson.  Both are only 23, which is promising and at some point, both of these guys will be in the rotation, but for […]

Chris Young Crystal Ball

by @ Tuesday, March 27th, 2007. Filed under 2007 Diamondbacks

Prospect guru John Sickels posted what he thinks centerfielder Chris Young will do in his career.  He has him leaving the Diamondbacks after he puts in his six years and he has him putting up a pretty solid career.  No 30/30 seasons but he comes close.  And I guess I could live with that 2007 […]

Tad Iguchi Has Big Game in Loss to Giants

by @ Tuesday, March 27th, 2007. Filed under 2007 Season

The White Sox lost another spring game, and outside of Tad Iguchi, the offense didn’t do too much.  Iguchi homered, tripled, and drove in both White Sox runs in the 3-2 loss while the rest of the team managed just five hits.
Javier Vazquez had another mixed outing on the mound.  He went 5 1/3 but […]

Kerry Wood Injures Shoulder, Will Start Season on DL

by @ Tuesday, March 27th, 2007. Filed under 2007 Season

This is a drag but not at all surprising.  Now it’s Kerry Wood’s shoulder that’s bothering him and the end result will be a stint on the disabled list.  He’ll miss opening day and there’s no time table for his return.  I wasn’t banking on Wood doing much for us this year but it sure […]

Brad Lincoln Cleared to Pitch

by @ Tuesday, March 27th, 2007. Filed under 2007 Pirates

This is definitely some good news.  Pirates pitching prospect and 2006 first round pick Brad Lincoln was given the green light to begin pitching again.  He’s going to start the season at Class A Hickory once he spends some time at extended spring training.  Hopefully this isn’t a false positive and Lincoln puts together a […]

Neifi Perez and Chris Shelton Quick Links

by @ Tuesday, March 27th, 2007. Filed under 2007 Tigers

Alright, here’s a story on what Neifi Perez had to do to keep his spot on the team.  Interesting read and for all of the bashing that goes on about how bad of a player he is, it’s all relative.  Yes, he’s one of the poorest hitters in major league history but the guy is […]

Nationals Minor League Preview

Reds Can’t Touch Dice-K in Win Over Red Sox

by @ Tuesday, March 27th, 2007. Filed under 2007 Season

The Reds didn’t get a hit until the seventh inning yesterday afternoon but that didn’t stop them from winning the game because they touched up reliever Craig Hansen for five runs in the seventh.  Daisuke Matsuzaka threw the five no hit innings and won the battle, but the Reds won the war.
In the meantime, Bobby […]

Edward Campusano Requires Surgery

by @ Tuesday, March 27th, 2007. Filed under 2007 Tigers

Well, this is a drag but it’s not neccesarily surprising.  Edward Campusano will need Tommy John surgery to repair his injured elbow and he’ll miss the 2007 season.  He came out of the gate this spring like a mad man but now there’s speculation that he might have been hiding the injury since his velocity […]
