Twins’ Backs Are Against the Wall After Game Two Loss to A’s

by @ Wednesday, October 4th, 2006. Filed under 2006 Season

Man, this is tough.  After the last 100 regular season games, the Twins have been right there with some of the best teams in baseball.  Now, to have it end like it might in a three game sweep would be pretty disappointing.
Esteban Loaiza didn’t have pretty numbers but he was solid down the stretch (he had […]

Frank Thomas Homers Twice in Twins Loss to A’s in ALDS Game One

by @ Tuesday, October 3rd, 2006. Filed under 2006 Season

Man, this is a tough one.  You bank on winning the game that Johan Santana pitches so this means not only do the Twins have to take one when Johan isn’t on the mound, but they have to take two.  I like tomorrow’s match up though.  While I don’t have a ton of faith in […]

Cubs Clean House

by @ Tuesday, October 3rd, 2006. Filed under 2006 Season

As expected, Dusty Baker is gone.  I’ve said this before, but he didn’t do a bad job.  He took us closer to the promised land then any other coach but I think his time just ran out.  Also gone is the team’s President, Andy MacPhail.  He could never do what he did for the Twins (two World […]

2006 Playoff Predictions

by @ Tuesday, October 3rd, 2006. Filed under 2006 Season

Man, I love the playoffs.  Each game seems to be a nail biter and with the Tigers making the post season this year, it’s that much sweeter.  Who’s coming out on top in the 2006 World Series?  I’m not sure but I definitely have my opinion.

White Sox Finish Season With Series Win Over Twins

by @ Monday, October 2nd, 2006. Filed under 2006 Season

Well, we tried to help the Tigers out, they just blew it.  I’m sick of listening to people compare the 2005 White Sox to the 2006 Tigers.  Yes, they both came out of nowhere, but the comparison’s will stop once the Yankees roll right over the Tigers in what will probably be a sweep.
On Friday, […]

Red Sox Finish Season With Series Win Over Orioles

by @ Monday, October 2nd, 2006. Filed under 2006 Season

Third place.  After a season where expectations are sky high, it’s hard to swallow that the Red Sox didn’t even finish ahead of the Blue Jays.  At the All Star Break, the Red Sox were on top of the World and as late as mid-August, they were in the mix.  Now Red Sox fans will […]

Mets Head Into NLDS Against Dodgers With Four Straight Wins

by @ Monday, October 2nd, 2006. Filed under 2006 Season

Thank you Nationals.  While I don’t buy into momentum too much in baseball, I do feel a bit better that the Mets rolled into the post season with four straight wins.  That included a three game sweep over Washington.  Next up is the Dodgers with game one being four pm on Tuesday.
It was fun to […]

Yankees Get Ready to Host Tigers in ALDS

by @ Monday, October 2nd, 2006. Filed under 2006 Season

Playoff time is like an annual tradition for Yankees’ fans.  Unlike other losing franchises (Red Sox), the Yankees always seem to put it together in the end.  At least they have since the mid-90s.  Now it’s time to get down to business.  The Yankees playoff runs haven’t gone so well the past couple of years […]

Phillies Eliminated From Playoff Contention on Final Day of Regular Season

by @ Monday, October 2nd, 2006. Filed under 2006 Season

For the second straight season, the Phillies were in it until the final day.  This year they needed to win and get some help but I feel better this year because the team was given up for dead at the trade deadline.  Then again, if they hadn’t traded Abreu for nothing………
I’ll be running down the […]

Which Game Would the Reds Do Over?

by @ Sunday, October 1st, 2006. Filed under 2006 Season

By Thaq Diesel
Think of all the close losses.  Meltdowns by the bullpen.  Errors that ended games with a loss.  Runners left on base.  Strike outs.  I think about how close this team came this year, yet as of today, they’re in the same position as the Tampa Bay Devil Rays:  sitting at home.  I hope […]

Twins Pass Tigers in AL Central After Win Over White Sox in Regular Season Finale

by @ Sunday, October 1st, 2006. Filed under 2006 Season

The Twins are now in first place in the AL Central and it’s the only time they’ve been in first place all season.  Fortunately, it’s that last day that counts so now the Twins get a reprieve from the Yankees until at least the ALCS.  Not that the Twins can look pass the A’s, but […]

Cardinals Lock Up NL Central Despite Another Loss to the Brewers

by @ Sunday, October 1st, 2006. Filed under 2006 Season

The Cardinals split their four game series with the Brewers and it turns out that it’s exactly what they needed.  Had they lost one more game, they would have played that make up game, and I know the Cards didn’t want to be there.  I did see a highlight and the Cardinals have the third […]

Dodgers Settle for Wild Card Despite Seven Straight Wins

by @ Sunday, October 1st, 2006. Filed under 2006 Season

At least the Dodgers have some nice momentum heading into their NLDS against the New York Mets.  Their head to head record against the Padres cost them home field but at least they’re in the dance.  It looked very spotty last week but the Dodgers pulled it out and in winning fashion no less.
The Dodgers […]

Tigers Start Playoffs at Yankee Stadium After Five Game Skid

by @ Sunday, October 1st, 2006. Filed under 2006 Season

I went to two games this week.  One was Wednesday, which marked the beginning of the Tigers slide towards the Wild Card.  I also went to today’s extra inning extraveganza that marked the Royals (yes, those Royals) six run come from behind win that sent the Tigers packing to New York instead of hosting the […]

Tigers Could Clinch AL Central as Early as Tonight

by @ Saturday, September 30th, 2006. Filed under 2006 Season

Alright, I’m a glass half full kind of guy.  I know the Tigers lost to the Royals and they lost ugly.  The Twins lost as well though, so a Twins loss today (they’re way down in the seventh inning) and a Tigers win tonight give the Tigers the AL Central crown.
The downside to the Tigers […]

Yankees Head Into Final Series of Season With Best Record in Baseball

by @ Friday, September 29th, 2006. Filed under 2006 Season

Even when it doesn’t matter, the Yankees play like they’re supposed to.  With home field advantage on the line, the Yankees are one game ahead of the Twins and Tigers.  I know they have the tie break over the Tigers but I’m not sure about the Twins.  Regardless, the Yankees will probably need two wins […]

Mets Limp Into Final Series, Pedro Martinez Likely Done for the Season

by @ Friday, September 29th, 2006. Filed under 2006 Season, Pedro Martinez

Man, this is bitter sweet.  The good news is, we’ve gone most of the season without a really effective Pedro and still finished with the best record in the National League.  The bad news is, you knew he’d be money and a difference maker.  Now that World Series win doesn’t seem as firmly in the […]

Twins Tie Tigers After Series Win Over Royals

by @ Friday, September 29th, 2006. Filed under 2006 Season

Alright, it all comes down to these final three games.  The Twins are in the playoffs, but they can avoid playing the Yankees on the road in the first round.  They probably need a sweep (along with some help) to do it, but there’s still a solid chance.
Monday was the day the Twins clinched a […]

Phillies Down Two With Three to Play For Wild Card

by @ Friday, September 29th, 2006. Filed under 2006 Season

Well, this looks like it’s the beginning of the end.  The only way the Phillies can win the Wild Card outright is if they win their last three AND the Dodgers lose their last three.  Worst case scenario, the Phillies are playing this weekend with that final playoff spot in the Dodgers hands.  And all […]

All Tied Up With Three to Go

by @ Friday, September 29th, 2006. Filed under 2006 Season

The Tigers enter their final regular season series of the season tied with Minnesota Twins after a loss to the Blue Jays and a Twins win yesterday.  The good news is, the Twins are no longer playing the Royals.  The even better news is, the Tigers now get to play the only team that has […]

It’s Actually Happening!! The Cardinals Choke Continues

by @ Thursday, September 28th, 2006. Filed under 2006 Season

By Thaq Diesel
The Cardinals are indeed doing an impersonation of the 1987 Blue Jays.  In fact, St. Louis may be heading toward one of the worst collapses of all time to end a season.  Sadly, the Astros are capitalizing on it more than the Reds to this point, but we’re three games (well with the St. Louis […]

Cubs Sweep Brewers

by @ Thursday, September 28th, 2006. Filed under 2006 Season

I like saying that, even if it was just a two game series. Regardless, the Cubs took both games of a two game series against another team out of contention.  Woo hoo.
The Cubs turned on the offense on Tuesday.  Sean Marshall was solid through six innings and Henry Blanco had four hits and four RBIs […]

Dodgers Sweep Rockies to Stay on Top of the Wild Card Chase

by @ Thursday, September 28th, 2006. Filed under 2006 Season

These past four wins have been nothing short of huge.  With today’s win, the Dodgers will be no worse then one game ahead of the Phillies and one game back of the Padres.  If they get some help, the Dodgers are tied for the NL West and two games ahead of the Phillies with only […]

Red Sox Lose Ugly Against Devil Rays Yesterday

by @ Thursday, September 28th, 2006. Filed under 2006 Season

The Red Sox are now down to their final series.  They’ll host the Orioles for three games and just like that, the season will be over with.  Sigh.
The Red Sox moved temporarily back into second place on Tuesday with a win over the Devil Rays.  Curt Schilling made his final start of the season and […]

White Sox Drop Two of Three to Indians as They Play Out Their Remaining Week

by @ Thursday, September 28th, 2006. Filed under 2006 Season, Brandon McCarthy

Alright, the White Sox are now officially done.  They won’t be defending their World Series from last year and while that’s dissappointing, I think White Sox fans know that this team will be right back in the mix next year.
The loss on Monday put us out of it and man was it ugly.  Jon Garland […]

Albert Pujols’ Three Run Homerun Ends Cardinals Seven Game Skid

by @ Thursday, September 28th, 2006. Filed under 2006 Season

Sometimes excitement is good and sometimes it’s bad.  The excitement over the past week has definitely been bad as the Cardinals looked like they might have a near historic collapse.  Thankfully, Albert Pujols came through for the club again and the Cardinals are now a little bit closer to winning the division.
The Padres touched up Jeff […]

Tigers Magic Number Down to Three Despite Loss to Blue Jays

by @ Thursday, September 28th, 2006. Filed under 2006 Season

The game lasted until close to 11 pm and I didn’t get home until midnight so I’m running on fumes today.  This was a tough game for Nate Robertson.  Four homeruns although the Blue Jays are stacked with good right handed hitters so you’d expect him to have a tough time now and then against […]

Game Chat on The Scoreboards Sports Forum

by @ Wednesday, September 27th, 2006. Filed under 2006 Season

I’ve recently partnered with a new sports forum site called The Score Boards.  I’ll be setting up a section for a game chat for each game so if you’re at your computer while you’re watching the game, stop by and we can talk Tigers.  Of course I won’t be around tonight because I’ll be at […]

Tigers Fourth Straight Win Drops Magic Number Down to Four

by @ Wednesday, September 27th, 2006. Filed under 2006 Season

Those Twins definitely aren’t making things easy for us.  They’ve matched the Tigers four game winning streak so while that magic number is coming down, it’s not coming down fast enough.  Even after the Tigers 95th win yesterday, the Twins still sit one game back of Detroit.
Placido Polanco was the man in only his second […]

Twins Clinch Playoff Spot

by @ Tuesday, September 26th, 2006. Filed under 2006 Season

The Twins clinched at least a Wild Card yesterday so after missing the post season last year, the Twins will get another chance to make a run at their first World Series since 2001.  Congratulations to the team and good luck in the playoffs.
