Mariners Eliminated From Playoffs

by @ Monday, September 24th, 2007. Filed under 2007 Mariners

Well, you knew it was going to happen but the Angels clinched the AL West yesterday.  Still the Mariners should win around 85 games and they played some meaningful games in September, which was unthinkable to a lot of people at the beginning of the season.  Now, they just have to make sure their recent […]

Mariners Split With Tigers To Begin Second Half

by @ Monday, July 16th, 2007. Filed under 2007 Mariners

I wish I could say I had no major complaints regarding the first half of the season.  The Mariners are firmly entrenched in second place and they’re still knocking on the door of the Angels just three games back (and two games back in the loss column).  The Mariners even split a four game series […]

Mariners Sweep Red Sox For Fifth Straight Win

by @ Thursday, June 28th, 2007. Filed under 2007 Mariners

June has been a nice month to be a Mariners fan.  After a sweep over the Red Sox, the Mariners have now had two seperate five game winning streaks and then a four game winning streak to make them 16-9 in June.  I know that six game losing streak was tough but the Mariners now […]

Mariners Bounce Back From Skid With Two Straight Wins

by @ Friday, June 22nd, 2007. Filed under 2007 Mariners

The Mariners have recovered nicely from their six game losing streak and they’ve now pieced together two straight wins.  Probably the most surprising game was that shutout by Jeff Weaver, who finally notched his first win of the season.  And then Felix Hernandez did it last night and you hope he’s back for good.  Anyway, […]

Mariners Continue Roll With Fifth Straight Game

by @ Wednesday, June 13th, 2007. Filed under 2007 Mariners

The Mariners won their fifth straight game and their ninth in ten game with a nice win over the Cubs.  This came after a sweep of the Padres.  The only bad news is that the Angels have won seven of ten and the A’s eight of ten so all of a sudden, the West is […]

Felix Hernandez Returns In Mariners Win

by @ Wednesday, May 16th, 2007. Filed under 2007 Mariners

First off, I apologize for not writing.  The Baseball Historians network had some system wide net problems that prevented us from posting so I was kind of in the dark for a while.  Things are fixed though so it’s back to work.
And just in time because Felix Hernandez made his return.  He threw two shutout […]

Mariners Win Three Straight With Sweep Over Oakland

by @ Thursday, April 26th, 2007. Filed under 2007 Mariners

Well, Oakland is in first place no longer.  The Mariners carried their win on Monday over Texas into a three game winning streak with two straight against the Athletics.
Jarrod Washburn had his best start of the season yesterday as he threw a three hit shutout.  He walked two and struck out two and it was […]

Mariners End Skid In Win Over Rangers

by @ Tuesday, April 24th, 2007. Filed under 2007 Mariners

The Mariners finally picked up a win and it turned out to being the only game against the Rangers this time around because the game was postponed and it’ll be made up in late July.
Cha Seung Baek didn’t have his best stuff as he filled in for Felix Hernandez.  Fortunately, the pen and the hitters […]

Mariners Slip To Last Place With Three Straight Losses

by @ Monday, April 23rd, 2007. Filed under 2007 Mariners

The Mariners went to Anaheim and left with their tails between their legs after suffering a three game sweep.  When the series began, the Mariners were in first place.  Now they’re in last.  The good news is, they’re just two games back so anyone who puts together a winning streak in the AL West can […]

Mariners Fall Out of First After Three Straight Losses to Twins

by @ Thursday, April 19th, 2007. Filed under 2007 Mariners

Well, nobody said it would last and after the Twins rolled into town and took three games, the Mariners went from first place to a losing record in a hurry.  And to make it worse, Felix Hernandez is going to miss at least a couple of starts with his elbow injury.
Tuesday was the worst beating with […]

Mariners Get Plenty of Offense in Series Win Over Rangers

by @ Monday, April 16th, 2007. Filed under 2007 Mariners

No that’s not an error in your standings.  The Mariners are the only team in the AL West with a winning record and they sit atop the division.  They’re a full game ahead of the Angels who had their game rained out yesterday with today’s game a question mark.
Things didn’t start out well though.  Jarrod […]

Felix Hernandez Throws One Hit Shutout, Mariners Split Rain Shortened Series With Red Sox

by @ Thursday, April 12th, 2007. Filed under 2007 Mariners

Some day, the Mariners are going to get to finish a series.  At least they got two games in though as the Mariners and Red Sox each took a game in the rain shortened two game series.  The first game was pretty ugly.  Jeff Weaver was hammered and he gave up seven runs in just […]

No Offense Means No Win

by @ Thursday, April 5th, 2007. Filed under 2007 Mariners

Three hits isn’t going to cut it as Rich Harden shut down the Mariners today.  Raul Ibanez had two of those three with Ichiro picking up the other one in the 9-0 beatdown.
Miguel Batista was bombed for nine runs on ten hits in 4 2/3 innings.  He walked two and struck out five.
The Mariners take […]

Mariners Double Up Athletics in Second Straight Win

by @ Wednesday, April 4th, 2007. Filed under 2007 Mariners

Huh, maybe the Mariners won’t be as bad as a lot of people thought.  I know it’s only two  games but the A’s are supposed to be pretty good and so far, the Mariners have had no problems with them.  Last night, the Mariners racked up eight runs in the 8-4 win with Ichiro Suzuki, Richie […]

Felix Hernandez Strikes Out Twelve in Mariners Opening Day Win

by @ Monday, April 2nd, 2007. Filed under 2007 Mariners

King Felix is here and man did he shine in the Mariners home opener today.  He threw eight shutout innings and gave up only three hits with twelve strikeouts in the dominating win.  J.J. Putz threw a shutout ninth and the Mariners became the first team to toss a shutout this year.  Hernandez threw 111 […]

J.J. Putz Prospect Retro

by @ Monday, April 2nd, 2007. Filed under 2007 Mariners

John Sickels took a look at J.J. Putz minor league career in a prospect retro column.  This guys been around a while, being drafted in 1999.  As early as 2004, he only had a C+ rating but some solid minor league seasons pushed him up to the majors before he had that great year in 2006.

Prospect Reports Plus on the Mariners

by @ Friday, March 23rd, 2007. Filed under 2007 Mariners

At Baseball America’s prospect blog, they’re going back through their prospect reports and commenting on them based on what’s happened this spring.  There’s some nice things to say about Brandon Morrow and they talk about how he’s in a battle with Sean White and Jon Huber for the final spot in the Mariners bullpen.  He […]

Mariners in the World Series?

by @ Monday, March 19th, 2007. Filed under 2007 Mariners

Derek Zumsteg recently previewed the Mariners over at Baseball Prospectus.  Solid read so be sure to check it out.

Mariners Closer Diagnosed With Sprained Elbow

by @ Sunday, March 18th, 2007. Filed under 2007 Mariners

J.J. Putz and the Mariners got some good news yesterday when they both found out that his MRI turned out okay and that he just has a sprained elbow.  The closer will start his rehab on Tuesday and it’s expected that he’ll be ready for opening day.  Putz had a monster season in 2006 and […]

No Offense for Mariners in Loss to Rangers

by @ Saturday, March 17th, 2007. Filed under 2007 Mariners

The Mariners lost 4-1 to the Rangers today and all their hitters managed was a measly one run on three hits.  Jose Guillen singled home Willie Bloomquist in the first inning for the only run of the game.
Horacio Ramirez gave up two runs on four hits and a walk with two strikeouts in five innings […]

Mariners Five Questions

by @ Tuesday, March 13th, 2007. Filed under 2007 Mariners

USS Mariner scribe David Cameron recently took on the five key questions the Mariners have going into the 2007 season at the Hardball Times.  He touches on everything from the rather random pickups the Mariners made during the offseason to the how good J.J. Putz really is.  The final prediction is an 85-90 win season […]

Breaking Down Adrian Beltre’s Swing

by @ Thursday, March 8th, 2007. Filed under 2007 Mariners

There’s no doubt that third baseman Adrian Beltre has been a disappointment since the Mariners signed him prior to the 2005 season.  His homerun power has all but disappeared and in this interesting column at Baseball Analysts, Jeff Alberts visually breaks down Beltre’s swing and compares to his breakout 2004 season to determine what might […]

Kenji Johjima’s Little Black Book

by @ Saturday, March 3rd, 2007. Filed under 2007 Mariners

It wouldn’t surprise me, after reading this Jeff Passan column on Kenji Johjima, that the Mariners catcher knows more about his pitchers then his pitchers know about himself.  It looks like when it comes to catchers, Johjima doesn’t cut any corners when it comes to getting ready to call a game.
It’s also nice that the […]

Raul Ibanez Leads Mariners Offense in Loss to Padres

by @ Friday, March 2nd, 2007. Filed under 2007 Mariners

Raul Ibanez hit a two run homerun in the Mariners spring opener in the first inning today to get the Mariners off to a good start.  Unfortunately, those were the only two runs the Mariners would get the rest of the way.  In the meantime, the pitchers would be solid but not good enough to […]

Chris Minaker Profile

by @ Saturday, February 24th, 2007. Filed under 2007 Mariners

Here’s an interesting profile on Mariners prospect Chris Minaker.   The shortstop was taken in the tenth round of last years draft and he’s progressed nicely.  He could return to Low A or the Mariners might see how he can do at High A in 2007.

Felix Hernandez Looking Sharp in Spring Sessions

by @ Saturday, February 17th, 2007. Filed under 2007 Mariners

If you’re a Mariners fan, Felix Hernandez is someone to get excited about.  While he didn’t quite live up to some enormous expectations in 2006, he can now start with a clean slate in 2007.  So far so good because he came in under weight and he recently impressed Mike Hargrove in a bullpen session […]

Jon Huber Has to Prove He’s Worth Making the Team

by @ Saturday, February 10th, 2007. Filed under 2007 Mariners

There’s no doubt that Jon Huber’s numbers look nice after he got his cup of coffee in September of 2006.  The converted starter was rock solid in 16 games out of the pen and now he’ll be competing for a bullpen spot out of the gate in 2007.
PECOTA sees Huber coming back down to earth […]

Bryan LaHair Profile

by @ Wednesday, February 7th, 2007. Filed under 2007 Mariners

Beyond on the Boxscore wrote up a nice player profile on Mariners first base prospect Bryan LaHair.  I do like the idea of going out and getting Justin Huber.  Good stuff here.

Mariners Preview

by @ Tuesday, February 6th, 2007. Filed under 2007 Mariners

Jeff Sackman recently wrote up a Mariners preseason preview at Beyond the Boxscore.  The nutshell analysis isn’t good and he didn’t like the Mariners pickups for the rotation.  While I don’t neccesarily like them, I don’t think the Mariners will do as bad as the analysis portends.  The bullpen analysis was done particularly well and […]

Mariners Top Ten Prospects

by @ Monday, February 5th, 2007. Filed under 2007 Mariners

Kevin Goldstein recently wrote up his list of the top ten Mariner prospects in his latest Future Shock column.  None of the Mariners fall in the “excellent” category but there’s some interesting names and the final prognosis (lack of depth and star power) is a little discouraging.  Still, there are some guys to keep an eye […]
