Florida lost their 3rd straight game at the hands of the Cincinnati Reds in another nail bitter. The game looked like it was going to be a blow-out shut-out but the Marlins strung together 6 runs in the top of the 9th tying the score and sending the game to extra innings where Florida ended […]

by @ Tuesday, April 22nd, 2008. Filed under 2008 Marlins

The Marlins are still in first place regardless of what happens in any of the other games and they remain in first despite a 3-2 loss to the Pirates tonight.  Ricky Nolasco had just one bad inning but it was enough after the Marlins failed to get their bats going.  The three run sixth inning […]

Mike Jacobs Belts Sixth Homer As Marlins Edge Braves

by @ Wednesday, April 16th, 2008. Filed under 2008 Marlins

The Marlins and Braves records look backward as the Marlins topped the Braves 6-5.  That pushed Florida to a 9-5 record while the Braves sit a rather pedestrian 5-9.  The big hit of the game was a seventh inning two run homer by Luis Gonzalez and while the runs were insurance at the time, they […]

Marlins Still In First Place After Second Straight Loss

by @ Sunday, April 13th, 2008. Filed under 2008 Marlins

We’re two weeks into the season and the Marlins still sit in first place in the NL East.  Not too bad for a team that was predicted to stick in the cellar all year.  I know there’s still a lot of games to be played, but it’s cool seeing the Marlins back on top.  In […]

by @ Wednesday, April 9th, 2008. Filed under 2008 Marlins

When the score is 10-4, there’s usually several hitting stars.  Mike Jacobs was a notch above the rest though and he homered twice and drove in four runs.  The two long balls brings his season total up to four.  Jorge Cantu also homered in the contest.
Scott Olsen didn’t have a spectacular start but it was […]

Marlins Lose Ugly In Blowout Loss to Mets

by @ Wednesday, April 2nd, 2008. Filed under 2008 Marlins

This game was ugly and the end result is a series loss in the opener of the season.  The Mets jumped all over Andrew Miller and he gave up five runs in 4 1/3 innings while Lee Gardner was destroyed for five more in just one inning of work.  The only pitcher to throw at […]

Robert Andino got just one chance at the plate today and he made good use of it in the tenth inning with a walk off, solo homerun to give the Marlins their first win of the season.  This would have been a tough game to lose because the Marlins pasted Pedro Martinez for four runs […]

Johan Santana Too Much For Marlins

by @ Monday, March 31st, 2008. Filed under 2008 Marlins

The Marlins lost their home opener but there’s not a lot of shame in losing to the best pitcher in baseball.  Josh Willingham tagged Johan for a two run homer in the fourth inning but that’s all they could manage in the 7-2 loss.  Luis Gonzalez was the only regular who didn’t strike out in […]

Scott Olsen took it on the chin this afternoon as the Marlins dropped their spring game to the Orioles 8-1.  He gave up six runs on eight hits and a walk with three strikeouts in four frames.  Up until then he was having a solid spring and he should have one more tune up game […]

Rained Out

by @ Saturday, March 22nd, 2008. Filed under 2008 Marlins

The Marlins were rained out today but there was news out of camp.  Mark Hendrickson was named as the opening day starter so he’ll go against the Mets a week from Monday.  It’s going to be a tough year and while I like Hendrickson and all, we are talking about a guy with a 43-55 career record.

Cameron Maybin got a chance to hit after earlier coming in as a pinch runner and he made the best of it.  His two run, ninth inning homer was just enough to give the Marlins a 2-1 win earlier today.   It was only one of five hits by the Marlins in the spring pitcher’s duel.  […]

Pitching A Problem In Loss to Orioles

by @ Sunday, March 9th, 2008. Filed under 2008 Marlins

It’s tough when you use four pitchers in a game, and all four give up runs.  Ricky Nolasco showed some promise with three shutout innings to start the game but then he yielded three runs in the fourth before getting pulled.  Bob Keppel also had a tough time and he gave up two insurance runs […]

Andrew Miller Throws Four Solid Frames In Marlins Win

The Marlins squeaked out a win today and they did it behind another solid outing by Andrew Miller.  The big lefty went four innings and he gave up a single run on four hits and a walk with one strikeout.  That leaves Miller’s ERA at a nice even 2.00 after nine innings pitched.  The strikeout […]

Dallas Trahern Is Hit Hard, Marlins Still Edge Cardinals

by @ Saturday, March 1st, 2008. Filed under 2008 Marlins

Dallas Trahern didn’t even last his two innings as he was knocked around for two runs on four hits and three walks.  Most of the damage came in the second inning and it would have been even worse had not Justin Miller came in to get the Marlins out of their jam.  From that point […]

With the signing of Dallas McPherson and the pending signing of Luis Gonzalez (pending physical, no official comment on Gonzo), I thought it would be a good idea to introduce a few of the newest additions to the Marlins’ family.  Let’s start with the two aforementioned guys.

Dallas McPherson, 3B

McPherson could fill the gaping hole […]

The Battle For Opening Day

by @ Thursday, January 31st, 2008. Filed under 2008 Marlins

The Marlins’ starting pitching could summarize their 2007 season with one simple phrase: “What happened?” Injuries, a lack of consistency, and the surprising drop in Dontrelle Willis’ production ravaged the young Marlins staff. Well, now what?
The Marlins start the 2008 campaign with only one of their pitchers from their 2007 Opening Day rotation, Scott Olsen. […]
